Typography and lettering

Like all other areas of knowledge and creation, design undergoes subtle changes every year. New trends emerge and explode for a period, and some can last for several years.

With 2017 over, here are the predictions for what will be high in 2018.

Whether these predictions are true will only be known later this year. However, I have selected a few that I consider to be the most promising.

So, without further delay, come and find out what they are!

Vibrant colors

With the ever-increasing amount of information available to people on the Internet, it is necessary for your content to stand out from the crowd.

In 2018 this will continue to be a necessity!

One way to do that is by using  light, vibrant colors that draw the user’s attention.

However, you need to  be careful . As I explained  here , using vibrant colors can  cause eye strain , leading people to look away as soon as they see your content.

Try to balance vibrant colors in a harmonious way, just like Spotify did with its new visual identity:

Degraded

And speaking of colors, a recurring trend since Instagram  completely changed its visual identity  is the use of  gradients . I think that 2018 will be no different.

Gradients used with vibrant colors can be the perfect combination for an attractive and eye-catching look for this year.

Typography  is also a very recurring trend, but  , because it is quite changeable, it never goes out of style.

Just like with the use of colors, the forecast for 2018 is that these elements  will attract the user’s attention . Therefore, invest  in large, thick and vibrant fonts .

The most popular typography styles will probably be  handwritten, 3D, and geometric .

Geometric shapes and lines

Geometric shapes have been a trend in design for some time now. I think it will continue to be present in 2018.

The forecast for next year, however, will see an increase in the use of more “curved” lines, resulting  in softer designs .

A good example of geometric shapes is the poster by the design firm Courtney Windham for its internal award in 2015.

Illustrations

At the same time, in contrast to the well-defined geometric shapes, there was an increasing use of  hand-drawn illustrations , which should remain strong for 2018.

In addition to giving a more  human side  to the design, it allows you to explore a more  relaxed and friendly aspect .

Mix of styles

The illustrations are excellent and so are the photos.  Why not put the two together?

This is a trend that I think will be strong in 2018:  mixing styles . Whether it’s the example already given, or using photos and 3D elements, or geometric shapes and artistic brushes: the possibilities are many.

This is a great way to innovate in design and create something unique, original and that stands out from the rest.

Double exposure

Double  exposure  is a photography technique that produces beautiful and impressive results, as well as making it possible to capture  two photographs in a single image .

It’s a trend that became popular with movie posters and music album covers. It’s been around for some time now and is expected to  continue to be strong  in 2018.

3D Shapes

3D compositions have been attracting attention guatemala mobile database ever since it became possible to create them digitally. Over the years, the technological advancement we have today allows the creation of  surreal images  that, at the same time, are extremely  photorealistic .

I think that in 2018 this will become a trend, as this year was the beginning of the popularized use of this technique. We have seen some companies migrating their logo to 3D and others using it as a product showcase.

Motorola recently embraced the interaction between 3D and corporate imaging

The use of 3D will likely focus on two categories:  colorful shapes  and  monochromatic designs .

Since the description is already very explanatory, I will talk about  the advantages  of using these compositions.

Both make the product or object in focus  stand out  quite a bit. In the first, this is done by the contrast between an object and a neutral background, while in the second, the volume is made evident by the play of light and shadow.

Negative space

The creative use of negative space makes it possible  to create unusual shapes where there would otherwise be nothing . It is a trend that is not new, but promises to continue strong in 2018.

Negative space  highlights  the object in focus and  directs the user’s attention  to where they should look in the composition.

Additionally, it is possible to use  typography  alongside negative space, resulting in an interaction that generates very unique results.

Animations

Animations are the icing on the cake . They are not necessary, but they complement any composition. After all,  a moving image draws much more attention than a static one .

Since 2017 continued down that path, I think it will be a trend in 2018 as well.

An example that I really like is the  Apple site , which incorporates some pretty unusual animations that create an incredible result as you navigate through the web page.

Cinemagraphies

I confess that cinemagraphy is a term that know the international air cargo rates from india was unknown to me until earlier this year. These compositions are characteristic of  seemingly static images  with only  one element or another in motion .

These are  GIFs  in which it is not clear when the beginning and end are, creating  an eternal loop  of a discrete movement.

Some designers prefer such compositions, as they tend to be more  elegant  and  comfortable  to look at than a regular GIF.

Just as I mentioned in the topic of animations, they are small details that hold the user’s attention more in a moving image than a static one, and that makes this trend gain strength in 2018.

Conclusion

Forecasting future trends  is never an easy task .

As design is a very changing field, we will only be able to see whether the forecasts written in this post will come true or not, only throughout this year.

However, looking at how 2017 went and how we are heading into 2018, I feel confident in affirming those predictions.

2018 will be all about how to make your content more eye-catching than your competitor’s . I believe that by using the tips presented alb directory in the text you will be able to come out on top of the design trends.

Just, I reiterate:   I am not clairvoyant !
