Have your store created by a friend or a self-employed person

Bad idea. What if your friend or contact is on vacation? And they can’t fix your serious problem until a

week later? What if your web hosting goes down during a traffic peak? What if your WooCommerce

gets hacked? What if you update your online store yourself and it causes a “blank page” problem later?

So many questions that are unfortunately often overlooked in “contracts” with acquaintances or

freelancers. In addition to rendering your online store unavailable for a certain number of days (no

sales during this period), the repair will, of course, be charged to you.

Even if it’s cheaper (well, I hope it will charge you less), think about it carefully.

The SaaS solution, for whom?

In the best of all possible worlds, what advertising database a merchant wants is to sell online as

quickly as possible. AS FAST AS POSSIBLE! Why? Because time is money. With a SaaS solution,

you’ll be able to add your inventory quickly and easily, and focus your efforts on marketing and selling

your products and services.

SaaS offers a ready-made, functional solution that is ready to use and accept sales, optimized for

search engines, and often easy to use.

And what’s more, you can create an online store for free with a 14-day trial.

Focus on marketing your online store

Thanks to SaaS, you won’t waste time searching for plugins (which are often incompatible or cause

security issues) and your efforts will be focused on what matters most to an online store: marketing

and SEO.

Myths to debunk

Myth #1: With an Open Source ecommerce solution, you

own your website

Boring. This argument in no way validates from methodologies to workflows the effectiveness or ease

of use of a solution… In reality, you will certainly also use an emailing solution such as Mailchimp or

CyberImpact, right? And these solutions are proprietary and no one is offended, right? And for

hosting your store, you will rent space on a server… of a proprietary solution.  In your next financial

report, will it be noted that you have an asset of ownership of a website and that holding 1 million

lines of code will increase the value of your company? No. In short, selling online and owning the

source code of your solution, we don’t care.

Myth #2: WooCommerce is free!

Oh boy… Really? Let’s do a little math together:

The real cost of Woocommerce:

  1. Optimized and fast belgium numbers hosting = $45 CAD at WP Engine (It has to work
  2. anyway!)
  3. Cost of the template = $50 to $100
  4. Installing and setting up a multilingual Woocommerce installation (let’s say our time is worth
  5. $20/hour – I know you’re worth more!) = about 1 week (I’m averaging here) = 40h X $20 =
  6. $800
  7. Time to understand the complex interface of Woocommerce (a few hours but I don’t count
  8. them)
  9. Time to update the plugins and realize that the new update causes a technical problem. Let’s say once a year to be kind (you will have to find a developer) = $200 (if the problem is fixed quickly quickly quickly…)
  10. Time to urgently fix the hack because you bought the cheapest possible template but which also installs plugins with lots of security holes = around $200 (once every 2 years if you’re lucky)
  11. Cost of paid Woocommerce plugins (and their annual updates) = $750 CAD / year. (Impossible to have a functional solution without their plugins…)
  12. Technical and telephone support = Non-existent
  13. Etc.
